Cottage cheese is not a a supplement. What you must worry about not administering prior to whelping is a Calcium tablet such as PET CA, which we don't start prior to whelping.....I was under the misconception of that too. Until both my vets; the one in Dallas and my Repo vet here told me differently. Logically thinking, if that were the case I'd be more frightened to even start cottage cheese, then backing down 3 weeks prior....You've already then told the body to shut down the calcium producing.......3 weeks wouldn't give the body to start up again. I've kept my girls on cottage cheese, yogurt, egg, whelping pudding....through their gestation period, with both my vets blessings....
