My kids wouldn't use the stairs, which would not be high enough for my bed; and I found them to be pretty cheap. My little girl has to sleep with me or I don't get any sleep (if you know what I mean) so she sleeps in a kennel on my bed. She is perfectly happy with that and I don't have to worry about rolling over on her or her falling or jumping off.
