When dogs play they nip, theres a few things you can do to solve this. When she tries to nip, make a loud sudden sound then give her a toy, so she knows biting hurts, but its ok to bite the toy. or whenever she bites your finger, shove your finger to the back of the jaw(not down the thorat), holding it open saying no bite (this is what i did, and it worked). Though Rupert only knows not to bite me, he still likes to nip at friends, still working on that.
Yorkies are very protective and loving, so they will want to sleep with you, and they will bark at things outside to protect you. Rupert always sleeps with me, and if he sees someone come in our lawn or sidewalk he barks at them, unless he knows them. If Rupert doesnt get to sleep with me, he wines as well, they just want to be close to you.
I have no problem with Rupert being on the furniture. But if you dont want her on yours you need to teach her its bad to jump up there. When she jumps up give her a tap on the but and tell her no so she knows its wrong.
I'm sure she isnt leash trained. Are you using a harness? If not you should try to switch to one, they seem to help. There is a good guide on wikihow on how to leash train that is really good. I was using it at first, but I dont even need a leash now. Rupert stays on my left, but my feet and watches me when we walk and doesnt run off. Though i only do this around my apartment, if I take him somewhere that I will let him roam around and there will be people there I dont know I would put him on a leash.
hope this stuff helps you. |
Im sure she knows where we are putting her pads because she uses them most of the time- although she poops next to the pad, not on it. We have been slacking on rewarding her for using the potty on them though. We did when we first got her and then we stopped once she was doing well with it. I suppose now that she is having accidents around the house we should start doing that again.
I guess my problem isnt so much her nipping when she is playing because she wont do it hard but her biting me when she is upset or when she thinks she is in trouble really poses a problem. For instance, she will pee on the carpet right in front of me, then I will lean down and scold her then try to swat her ont he nose (Her last owner said she would swat her nose if she did something naughty and that she responded well to it).But when I try to swat her nose she will bite me or growl at me right away, then run away and hide. Another situation is that she will pee right in front of me then run away and hide under the couch, when I try to get her to come out she will try to bite me or growl at me and show her teeth. I am getting the impression that she does not appreciate being swatted on the nose and maybe she feels threatened so she bites to protect herself maybe??? I dont know because she bites even when I am not trying to swat her nose. She will also bite when I give her a bath and Im brushing her out and blow drying her hair. She hates being brushed so she will often try to bite me and she growls and stuff.
My husband and I have agreed to allow her on the furniture but not in our bed- its just too intrusive for her to be sleeping with us under our covers every night because she favors my husbands attention and me and her end up fighting to sleep next to him every night! lol. I feel like I am sharing my husband with another woman!Plus at times we like to be intimate and she refuses to leave the room, we can put her out but she just scratches at the door. Its really becoming a problem.
Your right, she isnt leash trained but we walk her anyway and we use a harness. Her last owner never walked her, she stayed in the house all the time. But I read that all dogs should be walked everyday so we have been trying to do that. Im sure she was never taken out of the house either because she hates the snow and is not used to it. I cant get her to go out in the cold MN winters. Hence we were forced to stick with pad training.
Thanks for your advice I am going to try to make some changes and see if that helps our little Tallulah. She is not a bad dog, she just has some bad habits and she was never trained properly.
