I'm one of those caught in the middle of this (isn't almost everyone though?). I just recently graduated, having earned my masters in social work. Of course there's a demand for social workers but good luck finding a place that's actually hiring!

I knew things would be bad but wasn't sure how bad when I graduated. Thankfully my family helped me plan. I took out extra loan money to pay for bills in case I couldn't find a job right away. I am also truly lucky in that while I can no longer be on my parent's insurance I found a somewhat decently priced insurance (hahaha over $2k for me alone isn't decent but it's better than the alternative I guess). And my parents will pay for it as long as they can. Which isn't saying much since my mother lost her job of over 20 years the beginning of the summer.
I think it's unfortunate that so many people are suffering. It is not only limited to those with no education or poor finances. This extends to everyone! From me, the recent graduate, my 56 year old mother that worked 20-30 hours a week at a company for over 20 years and still gets fired, my father a real estate lawyer that's trying to stay afloat by doing foreclosures, to everyone else!
My only positive comment on all of this though is that I just sent my resume for an actual open position. Normally I've just sent it off to people, hoping they could find something, but nothing with an open listed job. Who knows what'll happen but that's certainly a bit encouraging!
