A lot of dogs prefer to poop indoors. If this is recent, I agree, make sure to give him a treat for going outside, and don't give him the opportunity to poop indoors in the morning.
Does he poop on command? You can have that be part of your morning routine. You can say "Do your business" if you don't like "#2".
