Do you know if this diet is properly balanced? Like, is the cal-phos ratio balanced etc.? Dogs really need a specific diet that is geared toward the canine. Where did your recipe come from?
If the panting is excessive, and he has other symptoms (does he?)...then a trip to the vet for some blood work might be good.
