Yes, this is so important, you can't tell by just talking with someone over the phone, please take the time to find a good breeder, and make sure what they are saying is the truth! I always recommend the mother club of the AKC the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, there is a common misconception that only those who are planning to breed or show should get quality dogs, but YTCA members are looking for good homes to place pets that for one reason or another won't be used in breeding. These dogs could be perfect specimens, and just be too small for breeding, so don't overlook YTCA members if you think you can offer a dog a good home. Of course, if you are planning to breed or show, you should definitely try to one find a YTCA member who would be willing to mentor you. Here's a link to YTCA members in ILLINOIS.
