Although, it really depends on the coat and the amount of time you want to spend on a pets coat. However, Radar is the exception to the rule for the most part....he runs in and out the doggie door, plays in the grass, sleeps on the bed, sleeps wherever he wants (with my pet yorkies) but he is in coat oil, wraps and bathed once a week and wraps re-done when needed whether it be every day or once a week just depends on his activity level and the weather outside. He has coat to the floor and ear hair is almost to the ground and mustache getting there. After one more year (hopefully) of showing he'll be cut down as it's "A LOT" of work. All my pets are in puppy cuts except the show dogs. But it can be done

As you say Radar is exception to the rule, Charmer was too. He was dripping in coat and facial furnishings when he was retired. It all depends on how strong the coat is. Not all coats are strong, and if one desires a show coat, it is alot of work.
