This is a wonderful thing you are going to do. Please understand the 1st 2 weeks can be the honeymoon period as they are a little frightened when they first come in and are usually on their best behavior.
You should buy an xpen and a crate (dogs love them and it gives them security) along with a bed. I would not buy him a coat until he has spent some time with you. Not all yorkies love to wear clothes.
Take everything slow as it would appear his original home really didn't give a darn about him (case in point not neutering him) so hopefully he will settle in fairly easy but don't rush anything.
