Most people give their dogs a sanitary groom, and the area around the anus is clipped short or shaved. My DIL's groomer shaved her Maltese too close and a razor burn and irritation resulted, which lead to a very nasty infection. Because poop is bacteria laden, any break in the skin can lead to infection, so I never shave this area on Joey, I just keep it clipped short with scissors. I may be misunderstanding you, but if your dog is having lots of problems, I think the diet should be checked. Poop should be firm, and I'm wondering if your dog's poop is too soft. Joey never has any dingleberries.
