Victoria Stillwell on one of her shows said that you only need the first 30 minutes of something to take their mind off of you and then after that they sort of forget and settle in. She did that for a dog that had severe separation and she used a video camera to see what the dog would do and it worked. The owner gave the dog something to do immediately when leaving the house and within 30 minutes the dog settled in on its bed.
