LOL!! I know, our Samson loves to play with ice cubes, too, and bat them around on the floor. However, we bought a bowl/dish you can attach to the side of his crate and that's what we put the ice cubes in. Definitely helps in not letting them melt all over his sleeping bag inside his crate.
