If they are most happy together in one crate and you think they need a little more room to move go up a size or two in crate size.
Mine when I leave her is on a saint bernad size kennel. I rather her in the bathroom with a tiny crate to go in or out of or even in an an xpen but she goes over xpens. She most comfortable in her enclosed den like place.
