When bella is in her pen she has a crate with a bed in it and food and water in the middle and then a potty pad at the other end of it. She has enough space but for some reason when she starts jumping around on her 2 back legs she doesn't care if she steps all over her poop. I have never actually seen her do it, but I crate her when I leave, and sometimes when I come home I find poop smeared everywhere and sometimes I find it outside of the pen as if she threw it.
Then I look at her paws and there it is. Nasty!
So now when I'm home, even though she isn't confined to just her pen, I just pick it up as soon as she goes, so that she doesn't have a chance to step in it. I have found a solution yet but if I do, I'll keep you posted.
