I dont want to sound negative but it seems like your puppy spends alot of time confined...I would trust her now, use a pee pad and just leave her in the kitchen with toys , a bed and a couple pee pee pads... if you are working and not home , its a long long day to expect your puppy to hold it to go outside.. Laci is 8 months old and I still have to take her outside every 2 hours so she wont have accidents in the house... I read that book and I think it would be great for a bigger dog with a bigger bladder that has the ability to hold urine for extended periods of time.
I would... either attach an expen to her crate or confine her to the kitchen giving her toys, crate and bed with pee pads.... I had great sucess with that and was later able to teach her to go outside... I wanted her to be trained for both when I got her because it was a long cold winter with way to many snow storms...JMHO
