My aunt (she's a vet) said that if its a grade 2 then no surgery is recommened since its a low number. If it reaches a grade 4 and is causing him pain then you might want to consider surgery. My pup got his LP from my other dog pushing him off the couch (she was jealous and wanted all my attention). Since he is only 3 lbs (full grown) I'm waiting to see how badly it will hurt him. So far the only time he seems to favor that knee is when he has run alot or played alot.

I don't think it was genetic and my aunt thinks the same thing. If you think it worsen with the next year talk to your vet.
