I agree. He will most likely start marking if you wait until 9-12 months and it can be an impossible habit to break once it's started.

Neutering right at six months is perfectly safe. In fact, studies have shown that pediatric spaying and neutering (after two months or two pounds) also has no long term side effects. It has been endorsed by the American Veterinary Association and the American Kennels Club, along with many humane societies:
