We spent a few days at the home of the breeders (they are family) and I had a couple of episodes. I was glad to figure out I kept washing my hands with their dishsoap and that was what was setting me off! I have an asthmatic reaction to ajax orange antibacterial dishsoap.
I held Chewbacca for most of the 6 hour drive home. I was exhausted and my allergies were awful the first week he was here. I almost sent him back but my heart was going to break so we stuck with him for another week or so and all signs of my dog allergy were gone.
When he came home, my arms and face would break out in a rash where I held him or if he licked me. After a couple of weeks, that was gone. I bath him weekly and wipe him with baby wipes daily. He was just groomed and my allergies seemed bad that day but I think it was being at the groomers where there is a high volume of different dogs in and out.
I'm glad your husband is a good sport. I am also glad you did the test. I would have been mad if my husband tricked me. Allergies are serious. At times I feel like others do not understand how it feels. When you cannot breathe properly or feel uncomfortable in your own skin, it is all you can think about. As wonderful as pets are, you need to feel comfortable and healthy in your own home. It should be a safe haven for an allergy sufferer.
Hopefully it will work out because Chewbacca has made such a difference in our family's life. Congratulations!!
