When the time comes and you lose a beloved pet, it's hard to think of these things. I hope this will give someone else comfort.
Reading some RIP's last night, I was reminded of how heartbroken I was when a precious pet died a few years ago. My boss, bless his heart, was so kind--he told me that the vet's office could have her cremated and the ashes put in a box for me to keep. I did that. It's plastic, the size of shoe box, and I have that in a lovely floral box.
I have a provision in my Will that her box is to be placed in my casket with me, in the same place where she always slept with me. I believe she is waiting for me in heaven--with my mom. But, it's a comfort to me to know we'll also rest together.
Now I have other pets I love dearly. I don't like to think of the next time--but when that time comes, which is inevitable, I'll probably have her cremated and placed in another memorial box. (It may be very crowded in my casket.
