I think the new puppy will really help the kids to deal with this. It will give them something else to focus on. I'm sure that Maci being pregnant right now, she isn't very snuggly or playful with the kids. A puppy will bring a new joy to your home. You already planned on getting this Chi, so it's not like you are looking to replace Macy or Thom. I would still get the new puppy if I were you.
