The proper way to clean their ears is NOT with a q-tip. Although I am guilty of using those (I still use them LOL). A q-tip pushes the gunk in farther. Use a good ear cleaner solution and 1/2 a cotton ball. Put the solution in her ear and rub in circular motion at the base of the ear (this will loosen the gunk). Let her shake her head (I drap her head with a light towel to prevent getting gooed LOL). Put the 1/2 cotton ball in the ear and rub in circular motion again. Pull out the cotton ball. I usually do this until the cotton ball comes out clean. Be gentle! I hope this helps. I learned this from my vet. Actually here's a great video that shows you regular cleaning and "deep" cleaning.
