We did the plastic storage box (large size) maybe 5 dollars. We had it layered with blankets. We put a blanket over the cut edge. The opening we made was like a triangle but very rounded corners and only big enough for her to get in and out. We put the heating pad on the bottom after all pups were whelped and we cleaned up. This was VERY easy to clean, the top could be off when we needed access to momma or the puppies.
