Ahem: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus Gets American Distribution

on August 14, 2009 8:20 AM On the heels of its wacko new trailer, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has finally secured American distribution with Sony Pictures Classics.
The release date for Heath Ledger’s last role hasn’t been settled yet, but for some reason, most blogs speculate that Christmas Day is likely. In any case, Variety says, expect to see it in American theaters this year.
Terry Gilliam’s film, about the head of a theater troupe and his deal with the devil, has waged a prolonged battle to find a distributor in the U.S. despite its cultural significance and cast (which also includes Johnny Depp and, frankly, we really can't say this enough, Tom Waits as the devil, among others). We're ready.
