by my new little 3 lb puppy!

Last week, I brought home the newest addition to my family, a sweet, 3 month old Maltese angel I named Aspen. Aspen is the sweetest little girl. I've already taught her to give kisses and she presses her adorable little black nose to your face when you ask her for one. Needless to say, I am head over heels in love. Unfortunately, Nikko doesn't feel the same way.

At first, he was curious about her, and even gave her nose a few licks. But as Aspen is just a baby, she is nippy and bouncy, and she runs after Nikko to bite his tail and pounce all over him. He spends most of his day on the couch avoiding her and he growls and snarls at her when she goes after him. I feel so awful. He has always been an only furchild, but he would always get so happy and excited when he met other dogs on his walks. I really wanted him to have a companion, and I thought a female puppy would be a great match. Could it be the age difference? Nikko is 4 years old and Aspen is 3 months old. Will they ever learn to get along? I told my vet and she didn't seem too concerned. She told me to give it some time. Has anyone had this sort of experience introducing a new furball into the family? Did your pups eventually become friends? How long did it take? I just want my pups to love each other as much as I love them.
