I don't think you plan to show him in conformation, so you can start with the sit command.....do it in a quiet area, show him the treat and verbalize the sit. To get him to sit, put the treat close to his face and slowly raise it. This should automatically get him to sit. But if it doesn't. Have Shaun sit on the floor with Sherman to his right side, verbalize the sit command and gently push on his little butt (Sherman's not Shaun's). You'll be surprised how quickly they learn. After he get's it, he can go on to the down command.....Don't attempt to do any lead training for a bit. Just make sure everything you attempt with him is a game and fun.
