Dew claws are a claw on the back of the paw, between the "wrist" and the "elbow". A lot of dogs are born without them. I guess it's better for a dog not to have them since they don't serve a purpose (I think I read somewhere that some larger dogs do use them? Not sure) and they can get caught on things. Thor has his, and it's not a big deal, they just need clipping like his other ones.

I have not heard of de-clawing a dog, but I am very against de-clawing cats, and since dogs don't scratch furniture like cats do, it seems even more pointless.
