Having lived in Hawaii for 20 years, I can appreciate that the state has remained free of rabies. I do feel the quarantine rules are "over kill", but none the less I'm happy our residents, and pets don't have to worry about rabies.
However, there is another reason to re-think taking your pets to Hawaii. Who would want to subject their precious furbabies to a loonnggg flight in a cage (not in cabin anymore), in the luggage compartment worrying about climate control, potty control, feeding, etc. and just plain freak them out? I wouldn't. And even if you would put them thru that scary ordeal, you get them here and find we don't have pet friendly hotels, and they won't have much fun if you do any of the activities most visitors do like snorkeling, scuba diving, boating, dining out, going to the beach (those that do allow dogs are frequented by locals who primarily have big dogs, many many pitbull mixes). Believe me, if dogs had a say in this, they'd rather be at home, cozy, safe and comfortable. |
