The green could work too, but when mixing complementary colors, it's best to have one of them be dominant with just splashes of the other color. The green also would work well with the yellow in surrounding rooms; I still like the idea of rooms flowing together. You don't have to use the same colors in each room, but the colors all work well with each other. If you look at the conforter, is it mostly white or mostly red? If red, I would probably go with the taupe, if white, either color paint would work.
