So I have been cruising on here and read all the reactions to shots threads. It scared me, I have had lots of dogs and never seen a reaction to the shots. So I made Luna's appt for the morning, just in case, so I would not have to hunt down an emergency vet. Took her in, asked the vet about reactions, and he gave the shots. I headed home (literally two blocks from the vet) and when I pulled up she was drenched with drool. This was not on the to watch for list the vet gave me, so I called him. He said bring her back. I drove right back and when I walked in they grabbed her from me and ran her back to administer benadryl and dex. Their reaction scared me more than the drool for sure. After a bit they brought her out to me. She needs one more booster to finish her puppy shots, any suggestions? She did NOT get a lepto shot, the reaction was from bordetella or distemper (the vet is guessing distemper). The vet said next time for sure I will have to hang out for awhile there, with possible benadryl before the shot. He is concerned because even though her reaction was 'mild' it was very fast. Anyway, THANK YOU. If I had done things differently Luna would have been in trouble!! And you should consider getting shots in the morning, just in case!

contact jean dodds at hemopet.com and get her recommendation. I am not a fan of bordatella shot as it made my parents dog get a viral infection - there are so many strains of bordatella that i do not do that one and if they got kennel cough i would treat with antibiotics
