Benefits are fresh breath and clean teeth, once a day poop and a lot less of it, healthy and human grade products rather than not really knowing what's in the dog food. 
I've posted the history of dog food below, basically they use anything the FDA does not approve for humans and grind it into dog food, even the hollistic brands have some nasty things in there. 
i never had to switch Sadie, from day one i fed her the raw recipe and she ate it up and would barely touch her kibble from the breeder. she just likes it better and having little teeth to crunch if it weren't for this i'm afraid she'd go hungry more often i still free feed some kibble (Royal Canin) 
It's MUCH less costly, you make it yourself and store it in the freezer and they only eat like a teaspoon twice a day...see recipe for details...i don't buy my raw i make it myself, she loves it, hope that helped
