Talking Breakthrough!

You guys have no idea what I discovered yesterday to get Sammy eat his Kibble Straight up Dry! It's ridiculous....I tried to play with him with the Kibble. I started grabbing 1 or 2 kibble in my hand and then threw it on the floor making him go and sniff it...and right when he's about to dive for it, I take it away from him. It ended up being a game ...since he thinks it's a challenge. He then started eating that kibble in a hurry because he thinks i'm gonna steal it from him. I then grabbed a good 5-10 kibbles in my hand; and tossed it in the mid air and let it scatter all over the ground then I'd race him to collect them back to my hand and purposely giving him a chance to steal some. Sometimes he'd grab a couple...and he'd run to under the table to take his time to eat it. And i'd pretend to approach him to make him think it's a game and I may still steal it from him.

He finally ate more than 2 hand full of Kibble! I'm SOO happy with the result. I even tried putting it in a treat ball and be next to him as he rolls the treat ball. As soon as a treat drops out, i'd try to beat him to grab the kibble and put it back in the ball.

I did it this morning again and it worked ...except now it takes me a good 20 mins to feed him. Anyways....I notice this method only works if I'm there trying to take from him...otherwise, if i leave him alone with the treat ball...he won't eat it even when the kibble rolls out from the ball.

Just thought I'd share the GREAT news! You're right, sometimes you just gotta trick these little brats!

I know this method is not the best because the last thing I want in the future is for me to drop something he's not suppose to eat; then i'll have a hard time teaching him to drop whatever it is. Plus, I want him to willingly eat his food. But at least now I don't have to worry about cooking him food or mixing wet food then throw it away if he decides not to eat (For Now). I simply put the dry food back in the bowl for the next meal .

I'll try to update once I figure out a better way....
