That's strange. Here are a couple things that might make them blurry.
* Are you starting with a tiny image and blowing it up? i.e., are you using a phone camera? That would do it. You can't turn small pictures large and keep the quality.
* Are you changing the dpi? Don't. DPI should be at least 72.
* Are you shrinking them, THEN cropping them? You want to crop the full-sized image the way you like it, then shrink.
