Yeah, I agree, you should pick him up, one traumatic event could scare him, worse than you picking him up, and he should be somewhat fearful, of a dog running to him that he doesn't know. It's happened to me a few times, and I've learned to pick him up, and if the owner and the dog really assure me, that it's a gentle dog, I will set Joey down, but more often I keep holding Joey. We have so many dogs off leash, and the park says all dogs must be on leash at all times (it's not a dog park).
