There are so many methods to training that you can try - you just have to take the time to do it. You can improve the life of a rescue dog tremendously by adopting an older dog, however, those can come with issues that can make them harder to train than puppies. Ultimately, I think either way getting a new addition to your family will be work, but you have to almost meet them to determine if they are a right fit for your family.
