5 1/2 weeks is when puppy teeth come in. Mom's are reluctant to nurse at this time.....this is also when the time when the consistency of mother's milk changes, so it's a great time to begin the weaning process.....But, only to get them use to it. Some take off with it others don't and require more patience and time. Try offering it with your fingers, letting him lick it off. if her milk is diminishing, you may have to do a little bottle supplementing with Goats Milk and equal parts of distilled water, given at room temp. We do what it takes with these little guys.
