Hi, the bell can be bought at michaels, they are medium sized jingle bells, put 2 on a key ring then put them on a fabric or leash and tie to the door. In order to get them to ring it, I would smack it, then take the puppies paws and smack it, good girl! outside! give her a cheerio, smack it again, lots of praise. A few training sessions of that and they will catch on. With Jazz she learned right away, Lex took longer but she is a pro at it now. Sometimes she smacks it just because she wants to go outside, so now when she goes tinkle I say good girl all done, when she smacks the bell 30 minutes after she has been outside I tell her all done, go play, and she gets busy with something else.
I also taught Lex to bark if she wanted to go outside, I say outside, then I say ruff, ruff, that worked faster than the bell, it's all up to the dog
