My poor peanut must have swallowed three pennies on the way to the groomer. Partially my fault I had her and Piper in their seat but once i was getting their leashes on let them out. She was vomiting all day long, we called the vet and she said if she stops just to ease her back into eating (had no idea she had eaten anything at this point), but by the evening we took her to the hospital. After taking Xrays they found 3 pennies, which we found out that passing them wasn't the biggest problem. Had they all been older pennies she would have been fine and eventually passed them. Newer pennies are no longer made from copper they are made from zinc and when digested is extremely poisonous! 2 of the 3 were newer pennies so they had to come out. They get a poisoning that basically depleats their red blood cells, and luckily we caught it in time. She is still in the hospital and had surgery to remove the pennies. I should have gone with my gut and brought her as soon as I saw her not acting like herself. If your babies ever get into coins especially pennies bring them to the vet or hospital ASAP, it may save your baby's life. We saw her tonight hoping to take her home but the doctor wanted to keep her longer, which as disappointed as i am i know its for her own good. She was not her usual self and very doped up on pain medication but i could see it in her eyes she wanted to come with us. I am devasted and feel so horribly guilty about it. Poor Piper is lost without her big sister to play with.
Please keep my baby in your thoughts and prayers.
