It probably would be a good idea to use a bell to save the door. Although Tinkerbell also scratches at my mom's back door to go out too so i'm kinda glad I was too lazy to get a bell because she now scratches the door anywhere to go out.

You just help them scratch the door or ring the bell with their paw everytime you go out. She went from that stage to scratching the door when I would tell her and then to doing it on her own.

Sophiesmom and suz those are funny stories!
