When I went for Sprinkles microchipping the lady at the reception mentioned that the Vet has recommended Interceptor for my puppy. At that time I thought they just want to rip me off and said I will call later for that.

My question is , is it mandatory to have this heartworm prevention medicine just to be on safe side? If i go back to vet she will charge me $50 just to write this prescription medicine. Instead can I get it from a pound or a shelter?
