I think a lot depends on the dog itself. Some shiver around 50 degrees. Gracie generally wears a sweater from 40-50 degrees if she is out just for a pee break. For long walks at this temp or below 45 or early morning or late at night she wears a foggy mountain dog coat that is like a horse's blanket with criss cross straps under her belly. She hates to wear anything but gets used to me putting in on after about a week. These are very adjustable as to size and grow with the dog. They have a website, check it out.
