Congratulations on your new litter. It is important that the momma be confined to a small area so she cannot be moving the puppies. An exercise pen works great because you can put her whelping box in the pen and she can have excess to her food and water and pee pads.

Diet is very important for the nursing momma. You need to make sure she eats about 4 times a day and the last meal should be at bedtime. Most mommas need to be hand fed the first few days after they have pups. What are you feeding her now? I recommend a high quality puppy food and you can add some canned food to that (I like using the Pedigree Lamb and Rice Puppy food). You can also add things like cottage cheese or hard boiled eggs. Many breeders make 'whelping pudding' and give that to the new mommas. You also need to make sure you are giving the momma a calcium supplement.

If you post in the breeder section of this forum you will get lots of good advise.
