Another food might make his poop smaller, but I'm not sure it will affect how many times he goes. I think as they get older they get more regular, but if you are thinking about changing foods, remember to change slowly, and add a little of the new food at a time. If he has any reaction, cut back on the new food. If you change too fast diarrhea can result, and you want to avoid that. I usually add 1/4 of the new food, to 3/4 of the old food the first day, if no reaction, I add, 1/2 to 1/2 the second day, and sometimes I keep it on this for a while to make sure there is no upsets. Then after that it would be 3/4 new food with 1/4 old food, until final switch. You sound like your doing everything right, it might be helpful to keep a dairy of exact times of his meals, and exact time he does poop, and see if there is a pattern that develops. Feeding at the exact same time will help the see the pattern easier.
