My take on the situation.

This is bad behavior, and it can be corrected. First of all take away the objects of his affection. Second. when you see him humping anything, giv him the Dog Whsiperer "Chhhhhtt" and a nip on the neck, and replace is love object with a rawhide or some object that he will not hump.

Since it has been going on for some time, it might take a while to break the habit, but i believe that it can be done.

You could even take him for a walk or play with him to release some energy.
