I have decided not to spay my females at all because they are so small and my vet believes that they should keep their body parts unless there is a good reason to remove them. They are pets and I am not gong ot breed them. There is no risk of pregnancy because they are house dogs and they are always supervised. My vet doesn't believe the scare tactics about increased health risks, etc. He feels with little ones especially that the risk of surgery is greater than the risk of some other disease later in life.

That said I think it is everyone's personal decision but I would defintiely wait as long as you can until she is bigger and I would ake sure the vet has an assistant or, preferably another vet there to monitor the anesthesia and the vitals while he does the surgery. Some save costs by trying to d it all themselves and it is just not safe. I would tour the operatory and make sure they have state of the art equipment and they know about the anesthesia needs of small breeds.

Good luck with your decision and I hope her recovery is quick and uneventful.
