It does not always show up in the stool sample especially in the early stages, I've been told this by two different vets. If it is treated in the early stages your dog will be just fine and bounces back in less than 48 hrs. Of course if it's untreated it can kill your dog, but I took my dog to the vet at the very first sign of him getting sick and it cleared up before it got that far.
