| Puppy Pad Training---HELP!!!! We do not and will not crate train.
There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, we live in an apartment building and have many neighbors with thin walls and she throws a complete fit that can last for *hours* of barking when put in a crate. I really think it goes beyond just normal "dogs not liking" it, to her being a little claustrophobic from being on such a long flight to get here in such a tiny doggie carrier.
Secondly, the breeder we got her from was puppy pad training. She was already on the path when we got her at 11 weeks and apparently doing well.
So when we first got her, she was pooing bloody diarrhea and the vet put her on anti-biotics and vitamins and said she is not ready for outside training and won't be for about another three weeks. (from now)
Puppy Pad training was going well. We were having small accidents here and there, and she learned quickly that at night on the bed, you pee and poop on the puppy pad......and during the day, you pee/poop on the three other pads laid out around the house. She sleeps with me on the bed and maybe that was a mistake to start out with, but if she's on the floor at night she barks and barks and barks, and like I said, I have neighbors and cannot have complaints.
This went well for a little over a week and the past few days have been torture. I've had to strip the bed a bunch of times (wash with detergent and borax to get all scents out) because she's peeing all over it, she will poop NEXT TO the pads, and in one particular spot under the coffee table. I specifically bought a brand new blanket to put over our bedspread to catch the pee.
I flipped our tempurpedic mattress pad over to the other side (it's 4 inches thick, after scrubbing it of course) so she can no longer smell her own pee and think it's okay to pee there.
Yet last night......after hours of me doing laundry, changing sheets and blankets , she peed on the bed, then this morning I caught her trying to poop right on the bed and quickly put her on the pad (which btw has one of the hard pad holders).
Why was she doing *SO* well and now doing so poorly?? I have resolve pet stain remover and have gone through almost an entire bottle. She would use the pads exclusively and now it's a free for all as to where she decides she WANTS to go.
The pads claim they get the dog to go on them due to scent and the carpet cleaners claim they deter the dogs from going in the same spot twice.
Wrong and Wrong in my case.
Any and all advice will be greatly welcomed! It is 8 am and she's already had FOUR accidents. I say "accident" slightly bitterly because just as I am typing this, she pooped next to the entertainment stand...my husband cleaned it up, then she went to a spot nearby and peed there. She's definitely doing this on purpose, she's perfectly healthy, and just had a checkup less than a week ago at the vet.
The vet said since she's so small, she'll probably be a pretty exclusive indoor puppy padder for life (she can take walks of course, and will every single day, but the puppy pads will remain a fixture).
Please help me!!!!! I love my little Poppy to death, but this is getting to be a lot to handle. I'm a stay at home wife, so I'm with her mostly all of the time, she has no reason to be acting out like this. |
