If you look at all the classes of dog breeds (sporting, working, hound, terrier, herding, toy, non working, and misc group) yorkie, although are terriers, fall into the "toy" group. That is where you probably think of them as "toy" in size, where in reality that is their group. If I am not mistaken, and someone correct me if I am, yorkshire terriers are the only terriers that are not in the terrier group but in the toy group.

Also, under yorkshire terrier, there is not sub category, so "teacup" is not an officially recognized word. Just any yorkie that is 7 lbs or less is standard, but they can be much bigger than that and there is nothing wrong with that.

If it is quite big, it may be part silky terrier. And to add even more confusion LOL, yorkie coats are described as either silky or cottony, so you could have a purebred yorkie with a silky coat and call it a "silky yorkie" and people may think you have a silky/yorkie mix. LOL confused now? good.

Oh PS the green reflection in the eyes means silky (in texture not breed) coat. Usu blueish reflection means cottony coat.

Oooops. just checked with the akc site, and there are other terriers in the toy group: silky terrier, manchester terrier, toy fox terrier. my bad! Well I was close!
