It can vary pretty widely, but you can reasonably expect it to take up to a year (I KNOW).

I potty trained an adult yorkie, and it took 2-3 months to get him to 99%, and I think that's the most trained he'll ever be. That means that under normal circs he behaves beautifully, but if he is in PetSmart / doggy daycare, he marks. Or if we move furniture, he gets stressed and forgets all his training for a couple days.

Of those months, I would say two weeks were spent watching him like a hawk and getting almost nothing else done. Then probably another two-four weeks of watching him regularly, and then the rest of the time just keeping an eye on him.
