The point is to stop her from being able to run and play, not to hurt her or scare her.

Oh, does this bring back memories of exactly the same age with Emily. I had already tried #1 above and my vet had me use #2. A couple of months later the trainer had me use a long down every evening with my hand on her back. It did work. It's all just part of puppyhood I guess.
