Wow, so sad. I never leave my dogs in the car alone. The only time they're outside alone is in the early a.m. and that's only when I'm pressed for time and before the sun comes out. I put them out there this morning because I have a full house of kids and brought them in about 9am and that was a little later (like an hour or two later) than what I would normally do. I also will hose my dogs down if they seem hot and we're outside. They love being inside so they're never outside for very long anyway. Those officers must feel awful!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately, accidents do happen...I would be in tears, forever!
